What Are The Benefits of Composite Doors
What are the benefits of composite doors and are they worth the investment? Composite doors are one of the most advanced styles of door used in UK homes. Unlike uPVC doors which are mainly made from plastic, composite doors are made from a number of materials that are pressed and glued together under very high pressure. They are designed to look like wooden doors and come in an almost endless choice of colours and designs.
Midlands based glazing specialists Clear Safe offer their expert advice on the pros and cons of compositie doors.
“Composite doors are the first choice for home security.”
Composite or wooden doors?
Compositie doors are very low maintenance and will last for many years without requiring painting or repairs. Wooden doors will require annual maintenance to keep them looking their best. Over time they begin to look tired and aged as the paint becomes chipped. Even a well maintained wooden front door will eventually succumb to the elements and will be liable to rotting. They can’t stand the tough conditions the slighlty more expensive composite door can. Compare to a wooden door composites seem like an overall better investment.
Composite Doors For Security
There is no question t that composite doors are the most secure and safe door to protect your home. With it’s reinforced materials, the overall strength and quality of the door, it’s arguably one of the most secure on the market.
They will have the state-of-the-art locking mechanisms inside them makingcomposite doors an all-around equipped door to prevent intruders and deter thieves.
Style and Strength
We know the door is low maintenance and high security but what about the style of the door and how durable is it?
Composite doors are offered in a wide variety of different colours and styles, allowing the homeowner to fully customise the door to their own tastes and match any existing decor.
Traditional doors lose some of their durability and sustainability because of the style and design, the composite door doesn’t. It maintains its strength, longevity and energy-efficiency benefits whatever the design.
Are there any cons?
There are many advantages to composite doors but every product has some disadvantages too. Here are two of the biggest that often put people off.
One of the main disadvantages is the price. When shopping around the price of a composite door does seem very expensive. Whilst proce depends on the style, colour and locking mechanism, composite doors start at about £1000 and go well beyond this.
However, you do get what you pay for. It looks like a traditional wooden door and comes in pretty much any style you can imagine; it is low to no maintenancce; the most secure door on the market; incredibly strong and durable.
Do you have a budget?
Stick to it! If compositie doors are out of your price range then replace it with a uPVC door insead.
They come in a range of styles, and are also robust and low maintenance. The strenght and security ca not be matched to composite doors though.
Composite Doors Creak!
One other disadvantage is that composite doors crack and creak in hot weather.
When the sun has been shining down on your house all day, heating up your doors and windows, you may hear cracking or creaking coming from your door later that day.
This is simply the plastic inside the door expanding and contracting due to the heat. However, this in now way compromises the security of the door.
As the door heats up and expands you may find the door harder to close and in turn, you may hear a cracking or creaking noise.
When the door cools down, the door is shrinking back to its normal size. This is why you may hear the noises at night as the air is cooling.
